On June 28, 2025, the City of Melbourne's Environmental Community Outreach (ECO) Division, Parks Division, and Beautification and Energy Efficiency Board will present a GEMS Award to Green Gables
The GEMS Award recognizes homes and businesses for the beauty of their landscaping and also for their environmental practices. Green Gables met the award’s criteria in many ways, including using native plants, rain barrels, composting, and following proper fertilizing and irrigation techniques.
In 2024 the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation in Tallahassee presented Green Gables with their prestigious Florida Preservation Award in the category of Communications & Media. We were honored for our outstanding heritage education program, documentaries, brochures, website, Facebook page, newsletter, and many publications and short films.
In 2024 the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation in Tallahassee presented John Daly, our Founder, with their prestigious Florida Preservation Award of Volunteer of the Year. This award honors the dedication and passion of individuals who generously donate their time and expertise to preservation projects. John has been a long time member of the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation and is truly deserving of this recognition.
On July 4th, 2024, the City of Melbourne honored Green Gables by selecting us to be the Grand Marshall in their 4th of July parade. Leading the parade is John Daly, founder, and Edwina Szelag, President. This honor was in recognition of our efforts in preserving Melbourne's History.
In 2022 several of our Board Members traveled to Miami to receive the Flagler Award. This prestigious award is given by the Visit Florida Visitor & Tourism Services. We were awarded the Bronze award in the Creativity in Public Relations category in recognition of a short film called "Wash Your Hands". This was created by our education program featuring kids encouraging kids to wash their hands during the Covid lockdown.
In December of 2002 Congressman, Bill Posey, presented Green Gables with a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition as the Non-Profit of the Year Award. This was in recognition of outstanding and invaluable leadership in our business community.
In December of 2002 the City of Palm Bay's Chamber of Commerce recognized Green Gables with their Non-Profit of the Year Award. Green Gables has been an active and supportive member of the Palm Bay Chamber of Commerce for many years.
